It was just the right kind of chilly

It was just the right kind of chilly, and the heels of my feet hurt from walking in my mother’s hand-me-down boots all day. We held hands and walked through the park, on our way to someplace to see something… we just hadn’t decided what it was. My free hand, my right hand, was numb from swinging in the icy wind as we walked. He switched sides, and wrapped both warm hands around that one. Like part of a dance, we continued to switch back and forth for the rest of the night. The ground was layered with crispy yellow leaves that formed a blanket covering the entire park. Each step welcomed a loud crunching noise. It was so soothing we walked in silence, although our synchronized smiles said more than words could anyhow.  Leaves like that should be left for decoration I thought, not swept up, bagged and thrown away. You don’t see too many colorful leaves where I’m from, so I delicately picked one up, hoping it could live like that forever on a page in my journal.

    Dear Nikki,

I just discovered your blog! What can I say? Your writing is mind-blowing. I know the twilight movies and I think you are a very good actress but I had no idea you were such a talented poet. Reading all your texts brought tears into my eyes made me smile at the same time.

Your writing and the photos you take reveal that you are a warm-hearted young woman and that you deeply care for nature and animals. Knowing that there are other young women out there who feel the same makes the world a better place.

    Lots of love from Germany!

Nature is catharsis to pensive people. We often spend so much time thinking about the artificial realities we have created that we don’t take time to consider the splendor of what exists without our manipulation. Cell phones, T.V’s, computers and the like allow us to live in a human-centric world. We are comfortable here because it is familiar. Yet, we are comfortable in nature because there is a part of us that remembers. A part that knows that we are but small pieces of a whole. We are not what we have made. That reminder can save our sanity on those days when we think about how horrible the world is becoming. With the continual rise of social media, one can see the apathy and indifference that convenience in communication creates. Every once in a while there are glimpses of hope. In the same way that there is a feeling of completeness when we set the apathetic texts and phone-calls aside to sit at a table with a friend, there is a feeling of completeness in communing with nature. To me, those leaves are mortality. The leaves live. The leaves die. However, we cannot forget that there exists a cycle. Those leaves will decay and nourish the trees that they have fallen from. Eventually new leaves will come. Yet, they do not come without the nourishment of the leaves that have lived and fallen before. In the same way we humans nourish those who follow after. We will live. We will die. We can dance gracefully along the breeze in our descent following the whim of the universe. Or, we can tumble clumsily to the ground, gravitating forward without dwelling on the magnificence that we were here. The choice is ours, but nature is an excellent guide.

I’m really enjoying reading all the things you’ve written. While I enjoy your acting….I wonder…. Have you ever considered being a writer? Perhaps it’s something to think about playing around with a bit during “down time” on the set, or between roles. You have so much to offer. Don’t limit yourself to one definition. :) Much love to you…..

as I looked into the eyes of the man I knew I was in love with, I smiled to myself. What had I done to deserve such hapiness? He held my hand delicately, as if it were a peice of glass so fragile, that if u didnt hold with care, it would surely break. As he kissed me softly on my cold lips, a snowflake fell. I had never seen such a beautiful sight until I had experienced this moment. And I had never known true love, until the second I laid my eyes on him. This is something I wrote for u. Hope u enjoy it. Love, keke bell

    Love it.
First, Congratulations on your wedding and you and Paul.

I can imagine this fall day right know in this moment. In Germany where I live, it’s now cold and I think those chilly temperatures will remain for a while. I’m used to it that we haven’t such hot summers(we didn’t have any summer this year, at least I haven’t) here and I was really not in a good mood when I heard that it’s going to be that cold. For me that means we’ll have a long winter..but I remember that I actually like the fall, really I love it! crunchy time! So, amazing! I’ll remind me next time I think about the not so well summer! :D

I wish you and Paul much happiness and blessings now and in the future. Congratulations!
Thank you very much for supporting Autism Speaks. My son was diagnosed when he was three. He was still talking then, by the time he was 4, it stopped. He is eleven now and although speech is always encouraged and some progress has been made, we are always exploring and are open to various avenues of communication for him. Thank you Nikki. God Bless you and Paul in all your endeavors.

You should come to Maine some fall, there are thousands of leaves, everything from sunshine yellow to flame reds. It’s almost like nature wants to throw all these bright colors at you so you won’t miss them so much when everything is shining and white. We’ve already had our first snow this year though so the colors will go soon this year. Thanks for the wonderful blogs though, its really nice to hear other people’s thoughts so well presented. Congrats to you and Paul and may every day from now on be as great for you both as the day you first fell in love! :) You are amazing. Don’t ever change! Much <3 from your Maine fans!

Dear Nikki, have you ever considered writing a book? When I close my eyes I can imagine everything you wrote about and somehow it makes me feel warm inside. It’s a sign of good writing when one can make you feel, smell and imagnie things just by stating something in one’s writings. I think that if you’re brave enough, you should publish write a book someday. You’re not just a talented actress, but also talented in writing. All the best wishes!

Hello Nikki! I am 11 years old! I really admire you as an actress and as a person and learned alot from the movie thirteen. Especially since my dad has pancreatic cancer, (he says hello) and I have had urges to rebel, I don’t because I think about the lesson you were trying to teach young girls with that movie :) You’re very pretty and I wish you and Paul the best! Tell him he was my favorite on American Idol. You probably won’t ever see this, but I love you! Keep being awesome Nikki! I definitely will be rooting for you! <3 You are definitely one of my role models and somebody I look to for advice. <3 I hope to meet you someday Nikki and again wish you the best. Did I mention you are my favorite actress? hehe :) I'll be attending the breaking dawn tour for sure! :)
