For you little butterfly

What journey has led you here, to rest in peace in the shadow beneath my chair? How long did you live and how high did you soar? How many people did you leave mesmerized by your intricate patterns? Your colors so magnificent, they drew me closer before I realized you were nothing but the shell of what you once were. So delicate, even the strong breeze couldn’t feel your presence. You stayed all day. Once I glanced out my window and saw the dog curiously provoking you, but he knew there was no one home. The next morning you were gone. Maybe the night stole you away, or maybe you woke from your dream in butterfly land. Maybe you will come back and visit me while I sleep.

I’m reading this after taking my Ambien. I do this on purpose, because poetry becomes a beautiful, elusive thing like the butterfly. If i’m texting on my phone, the keyboard seems to divide and I stop trying to get the words right for my sister. It takes more work to read, more to process, but for those short minutes . . . there, i found the ellipse. The butterfly is gorgeous and does not belong with man.

    Ola! Nikki,
Interesting Thoughts, Butterfly tattoos are glorious, dynamic and versatile motifs for a person or a female. Butterflies as a team are a traditional icon in the visual and decorative arts. There is also recurrent reference to these pretty creatures in tunes, from the identify of Puccini’s opera in which a Japanese lady marries an officer in the US navy to Hip Hop artist Bobby Valentino’s “Butterfly Tattoo”. Books were written by Philip Pullman, celebrated for “The Golden Compass” and Deidre Knight, each titled “(The) Butterfly Tattoo”. The Pullman book was made as a movie in 2008.
I’ll be back to read more next time

That was beautiful. The way you can turn such a simple small being into such a graceful poem is amazing! This piece shows how considerate you are and the big heart you have. The elaborate details just suck you in and make you wonder these things as well, makes you wonder about the simple things in life..

That was simply beautiful, magical and divine. Thank you very much Nikki. You have such a romantic and poetic spirit. Your words moved my spirit. I started my day angry… But after reading these beautiful words, I’m smiling, my heart is at peace. You’ve reminded me to appreciate the little and simple things in life; no matter how tough things might be, I should stop and look at nature, at the beautiful things around me and give thanks to the Creator. Thank you very much. God bless you, keep writing beautifully xxx

I love to read your texts. They are magnificent. I would like to write the same way – well of course I have to learn for that -, but it’s kinda like Shakespeare. Write a book or something. That will be – maybe, but I hope – bestseller in the world. Good luck on writing.

Nikki, I think u r a truly amazing person. U use your wisdom very well. U dont keep it to yourself, but share it with othr people. U make me think about life and help me to get a better perspective on things. I would love to meet u one day. I dont know if u will read this but I hope u do. I think u r very talented and beautiful and I pray your career goes very far. Here is a little bit of wisdom from me. How will we ever know if there is something better for us in store if we dont let go of the bad thing we r holding on to? Life is like a rollercoaster and we have ups and downs, but when the ride stops, what we will remember most is the thrill of the ride and the ppl we shared it with. Thank u so much nikki and God bless u!

Awww. I’ve spent all summer chasing butterflies thanks to the amazing garden I built with my mom. Really makes me not want to take anything for granted. Last summer I was too sick to run so I don’t know maybe the butterflies mean more this year. Beautiful photo and writing, as always. I hope whatever I write or draw can be inspiring one day!

Stunning. I blieve that life is in the details. How incredable to see someone take the time, not only to appriciate something beautiful, but to compose an ode to its beauty and the emotions it evoked. Koodos.

It’s wonderful. Plato said: “at the touch of love all become poets”, but the reality is that to hunt out of expressions so strong it takes an innate sensitivity. As when the invertebrate in the picture of Munch crosses the bridge and his sensitivity is such that only he and no other realizes what is happening around.

Magnificent poem… Most of our time we just live without actually living real lfe. We go day by day, hr. by hr without appreciating what the world has to offer. Why is that?:/

I absolutely adore butterflies. I loved this poem. I’ve always like them, ever since I was a little girl. Throughout life, I’ve grown to love them for more than just their physical beauty, but because of the fact that they only live for so long, yet they can brighten someones day, provide hope, and just make the world a better place. They tell me, “Life may be short, but it can be so beautiful.”

    August 31, 2011 | 4:00 pm

Very poetic, graceful and filled with imagery. Don’t you love just musing over simple things sometimes? Often it is those simple things that I ponder on the most. Maybe they hold the meaning of life. Or perhaps they hold the secrets to the universe. If nothing else, they hold our attention and our interest and spark our creativity. Loved the picture as well. As always, thank you for sharing your unlimited talent. (Oh, and loved the Wonder Twins video as well. Laughed like crazy on that one. Probably shouldn’t have watched it at work!)
    Best Wishes and God bless!
