Once again it took ten hours and two flights to get to the south. Three of those hours were not spent flying, but rather sleeping on the airport floor in Charlotte waiting for a connecting flight. It was brutal, as was the line to get a chicken biscuit from Bojangles. But Bonnaroo awaited and I needed fuel. And let’s be honest, the redeye in coach is never fun, but paying for first class tickets is still a concept I can’t wrap my head around. My neck is pretty angry at me. We arrived around noon. The sun was directly overhead and my tan lines are proof of that. Trying to swim through the hot, thick air on a couple hours of sleep felt impossible, especially since our campsite was a 20-min walk away from the music, but we were raring to go and nothing could stop us. It was incredible. We stopped for a couple of songs at each stage, unable to commit to an entire set. Apparently it was more crowded than usual this year, and he was anxious to show me around. He somehow managed to convince me to ride the ferris wheel, despite my fear of heights. My anxiety was documented in a thousand pictures during the ride, and being the subject of those photos only added to that anxiety. I’d much rather be the one holding the camera. Anyway, the day flew by as we listened to Amos Lee and Portugal. The Man, and ate vegetarian burritos while Bobby Long serenaded us. It was more romantic than I imagined it would be in such dusty, humid conditions. We laid on our backs in the grass while Mavis Staples “took us to church”, and I pretended I was my mom, in 1976 at the Topanga music festival she always told me about. I even stuck a couple of feathers in my hair. We raced over to see The Head and the Heart, a band that I had been listening to on repeat for the last couple of weeks. Their last song made me cry. Something about that kind of passion, I so rarely see, gave me goose bumps, and he pointed them out. I felt like we were the only two people in the world amongst the 90,000 others. What a different kind of place this was. A place where people go to feel the music, and are too consumed by that to even notice any film actors or TV show singers. How refreshing it felt to see him appreciated for the artist he is, as people approached only to tell him they loved his band, having no idea he was ever on a TV show. It made me smile. I’d like to stay in that world; a world where iPhones and flip cams don’t exist, a world where people live only to dance to whatever beat they hear.

I was recently in my home state of Kentucky (and staying in a very small town) recently and loved loved loved not seeing cell phones and texting every where you looked. Very refreshing. I live on my vineyard here in California and have an extremely talented son (a writer also) who is totally against Hollywood. He has a strong dislike of the “politics” and only thinks independent films have any worth. Since you are a successful writer-what would you offer in the way of advice? And have you ever thought of mentoring anyone.? About a month and a bit ago, I didn’t know who you were nor had I ever watched twilight. All I knew was that you were ” that girl who gushed over Paul at the Red Riding Hood premiere”,
but I can inform you that a lot can change in just a few weeks!
I fell in love with Pauls voice the moment he sang blackbird, leading me to download all of his music and even further fall in love with him and The Grand Magnolias. There’s something special about him. His voice, his smile, the way he seems like a genuinely nice guy.
So obviously, being the 15 year old fan girl that I am, when I found out he was dating you let along getting MARRIED to you, I was quite jealous, but not enough to not look into you, and I must say… I approve!

It’s surprising how very different time and space is now then it was.. even like ten years ago. I’ve been through hard times and things seem to pass me by almost like a blur, time has very little meaning to me but it also goes by so fast, I remember simpler days without cell phones and Ipods, there was a time when I would sit beside my bed pretending I could find secret passages through my walls into beautiful gardens or some kind of fairy tale worlds and now those walls are nothing more than plaster and wood. Things transform into material, thoughts into facts. But those few moments when we get taken back to those fairy tale days, those are days worth remembering. I’m surprised at how reminiscent you are of myself. After reading a couple blogs I almost feel like your one of my close friends, its crazy.
Your humbleness and the way in which you express yourself will never stop amazing me.

I once held a conversation with an old friend, an ex lover, but we had a deep connection that no1 in the entire world could ever understand, we stopped to admire the things mankind takes for granted…we looked @ the art of life…we too imagined a fantasy world where we could fufill our dreams ..fufill our desires…to over look the survival of the fittest, but to come together and take our neighboors weakness and present the beauty of a flaw, show a womans insecurities for the greatness it witheld.. where critics saw the bad..we seen the good…we recgonized a persons inner gracefulness for what it was, Fear of the unknown, or fear of rejection can cripple a persons mindset if weakness over powers. Technology = handy…a need in the world today…accessability to the materialistic desires put us ahead but not in spiritual , emotional, mental advancement, advancement that feeds the soul. you come to realize that everything else around you provides comfort for the moment but @ the end of the day its irrelevant, we appreciated eachother, we knew no one else viewed life the way we did, no one appreciated the beauty of world around us, the flaws, & insecurities that is frowned upon. I myself admire how you (Nicole) can get admire life for its beauty & not just for its survival and comfortabilities …I appreciate your style and beauty of your writing and thought process…I too wish i could take what I write down on paper and act them on screen…let my inner light shine out and do what I always dreamed of & desired…appreciate your achievements, but also appreciate the gift you with hold to view life as beauty and not superficial
there is something about that charlotte airport, it can be your best friend or worse enemy!! my last trip through was suppose to be a quick stop on the way to GA to shoot a wedding. 7 delays later, a massage & pedicure, and an over healthy obession with the body shop products i finally made it. i could never imagine the craziness you live in but i’m glad you had some you time…. everybody needs that!!

Wow…sounds like all the best memories wrapped into one. Music really is the best form of expression I think. My friends and I all love to sing, and to rock out on various instruments, for me bass guitar and piano/keyboard. Summer is definitely the time to sing out loud driving in the car or while running around being total dorks, knowing your friends don’t care. That is in Manchester … just Southeast of Nashville, And Northeast of Murfreesboro Where i live … try flying into Nashville International next time … you might have better luck for 2012 … i hope you remember how friendly Nashville is and how easy the airport is to get out of from March 11th, 2011 when you came in to Opryland for the convention right after your Idol experience

So many people simply write words but when I read your words I can feel the emotion behind them, I can feel the environment and picture it all in my mind. You really are quite gifted.
