Something to consider

There is a reason why I haven’t written any posts. I have been away, relaxing my mind, and trying to do nothing but absorb the beautiful scenery around me. Ironically I came across this article, and I thought I would share it with all of you.

I’m a psychiatrist, and nearly through my whole teenage and adult life I’ve read up on the brain (my dad was a psychiatrist too). I had just passed out of Med School when the Net came, and with it “multi-tasking” and a whole new world of gadgets that I could never have imagined as a child (my watch was my ultimate gadget as a child). During the years of Residency I had to balance with the “new” way of life, and at the same time adopt what I felt comfortable with. Like a crescendo I suffered from the Internet overload , and pressure of multi-tasking.

So one day I sat and thought; is all this worth it? Na, and as much as I love gadgets and know about electronics (my engineer friends used to call me a Scientist!) I do things the way “God” programmed us…. sequentially, one by one. You’ll never find me in a hurry, I work 3 hours/day, 6 days/week, (and I make the same amount had I been working 10 hours/days 7 days/week). The only thing that is different in my (alter) life, is that I’m cool. I love to forget… we were programmed that way, but I forget trivial things, and don’t bother. Important things I remember even while I’m asleep. Like birthdays and anniversaries. You don’t forget those; if you do, you’re going wrong somewhere in life. And you don’t forget to notice. If my 5 year old daughter has a lovely pink dress on, I don’t forget to click a photo (previously I would have done it the “right” way; take out my expensive Canon DSLR, tripod and all, make a mini studio of the place, correct lighting/background, everything in place, in short, I used to strive for perfection. But that kills the real “you” and the real moment. Now I simply take my point and shoot camera out if it’s handy, use the D-SLR if it’s “lying” about, or simply shoot with my phone (which is hardly used anyway).

I’ve learnt to take life easy, and believe you me, it’s not that others like me more, I like me more. You won’t see me throwing a fit or getting angry (I was a hot tempered kid).

A lot I attribute to dad, who used to troll on slowly, way too slowly. He’s no more now…… but EVERY PATIENT who hears that he is no more sheds a tear WITHOUT FAIL. SOME even weep. I know people won’t do that for me, but at least I fix their brains, and share a tip or two.

It’s the least I can do as human being, who was brought up in Scotland without any “real” religion (an only child of my parents, who never meddled in my affairs); there is a power above, call him God, be it The Jedi Force, or as some think, simple “luck”. There is a POWER.

not exactly sure how i ended up here, but i found interest in this article. I recently heard a “story” on NPR about this very exact thing…well sort of. The narrator was a widower who needed to simply get out. He interviewed each of his road companions on this trip with a tape recorder. He was mostly hesitant about the upcoming rapids, and would note the expectation of each large rapid by his fellow trip mates. They were experienced, and he was notibly wet behind the ears with this new adventure. Each night at camp he would speak about his new found friends, and their life stories. Each so different, but bound together by their love for this sport of white water rafting. He spoke about his inability and reluctance to step out of his box and detach from his everyday world. He was impressed with his new friends and they’re ability to do so with such ease, as if it were the “norm”. Each day would bring a new interview, and new insight into their world and it seemed as though he was seeking more information to learn about them. At the end of the story, with all of these new life lessons learned, and new stories told, the person he learned the most about was himself.

I think it is rather important to exercise the brain. Step outside your box of normalcy and explore, and challenge yourself to learn.

    Hi Nikky!

I understand that you get an incredible number of emails and compliments from fans every day. And the number again, you will not see this particular post as I write. But I love you!
Perhaps it sounds lame because I do not know you. but you seem unfaithful humble and kind. You really are an incredibly inspiring and a great actor! You were amazing in The OC as Sadie and Thirteen of Eve and in the twilight as rosalee.Och any other roles you’ve done. You inspire me so much. Those who know you must be incredibly fortunate to have a person like you in their vicinity.

Interesting article. I love my gadgets, but understand the value of decompressing in nature, built a cabin just for that reason. I just recently discovered your blog. Great story about visiting your grandparents. Conjured happy memories of visiting my grandparents. Keep passing along the interesting thoughts. It has inspired me to start writing down some of my own random thoughts. It helps clear the head and I think it’d help my kids and I to be closer as they grow older.

    hi Nikki <3

    how beautiful have returned!

I have read the article, I make a difficulty to understand to 100% the English but I have understood of thing speaks.
Is really interesting and 'it is beautiful that you feel to share with us all of this.

I now estrange me from the matter of the article.Since I say that I'm really happy to write to the true Nikki:) to be able to read her articles and to know her:) I wanted to thank you for heart for this oppurtunity that you are giving to many your fans and to many Twiligherses, me inclusive. And' for this motive that in these days I have thought about making you a small gift, that I hope you can like. The only my way to testify my support is to draw, I know not to be particularly good but I do better than mine.
This is my small gift for you :

Dear Nikki, I just finished reading over you website. I love your story about
you visiting your grandparents. I just wanted to send you a message and see if
you could help me out. I am a single mother of three teenagers. We are all
fans of yours and your costars of Twilight. My daughter and are especially.
You guys (and gals) have brought us even closer together through your movies ,
websites, television appearances. We never have to use your last names when
talking about you. It’s like you are part of our family. (Sound crazy yet?)
I’m sorry I just wanted to let you know a little about us. My Daughter Alexis
is eighteen years old. She is a beautiful, smart , wonderful and very good
person. She would love to be in the Breaking Dawn movie. She is not an
actress, although she would love to become one. I have raised my children on my
own and of course they have had to do without alot of things that other kids
have had. Reading about you it sounds as if you could probably relate to this.
I really have good children, I honestly think this with all my heart. She is
such a good person that she really deserves more in life. Anyhow could you
recommend us a way of getting her foot in the door even if it would be a part of

    an extra.

It would be a dream come true. Please don’t think hard of me for asking you
about this. You just seem so sweet and down to earth I just thought you
wouldn’t mind listening. If I don’t hear back from you I understand. I wish
you nothing but all the love and happiness and success in everything you do!
You just seem like such a special young lady , you know someone I wish my Alex
was friends with. I am going to try to attach her picture with this. Take
    care! Love , Beverly Quick

The other day I was thinking about how advance our world we live in “technology speaking.” Take for example the photo. So simple, but it too has advanced. So where does it go from here? I don’t want pixels floating in the mid air; I want to hold my photos. And then I started thinking maybe it doesn’t have to advance. Maybe it can stay right where it is, in a digital, but still “printable” phase. This might seem really random to the article, but in a sense it matches up. I might be too old for my age but I already miss getting letters in the mail, I already miss a phone conversation that is now be replaced via text, facebook, and email. So in the end, future generations will not get to have the simple pleasures that I enjoyed. Will it even be accessible to them? Cd’s are almost a thing of the past, and books, I fear, will join them. Thus, creating a brain that will never get to be separated from technology. Future generations will only be more engrossed within technology. It makes me sad because I feel we are becoming more like programmed robots that check our emails and have forgotten what it means to really communicate with each other. Will this be bad for the human race? I think so, but for some it’s only the beginning.

“There will come a time when you believe everything is finished. That will be the beginning.”

    hey,
I don’t know if you someday, read this. Probably not. And probably I’m just a fan, of thousands, and thousands who you have. Congratulations! I’m not english so I’m sorry if you don’t understand things. Probably, I’ll never have the pleasure to see you, are so many hours to separate us. So, I want to say just a little thing, today.
All of us, have bad days. Harder times. Bad moments. You are human. You are a really good human. Hey, you don’t have to be perfect. And you know that. Exceed all of expectations. You fail, it’s so natural as breathing. Sometimes we go down with comments. It’s inevitable. I always read a expression in this ocasions. ” Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Fail again. Fail again. Fail Better.” You have got a lot of people comment every step you take. Hey, just be you. Because life’s too short to be anybody else.
Courage, I really like your work, and you too!
And when you really needed, I’ll be there. Even I’m just one more fan.

At first I want to clear one thing up; the blog I have written is my own blog about you, Nikki. It’s a fan blog, not one where I pretend to be you! :)

Well I think that article was pretty interesting actually, I mean, yes, I think that a lot of people in those days have all their sparetime in front of the computer and no, I don’t think it’s healty at all! At home we have kind of a rule; no computers before 8.00 pm and no computers after 10.00 pm. Two hours is enought, at least for us it is. There is a lot of time to check mail, post things on the blog etc.

As Jeanina, I love to read! I read everything and always. It’s the best ever, even better than movies. Or that depends I guess… :) Do you have a favorite book? Do you read a lot? :)

Love you Nikki! You are the best, you know! I adore you! You are one of the best actresses that exist! So, if you want, check out my blog about you :) It’s not very active, I started it like a few days ago :)

As I said, Love you and have a nice day ! <3

I wish I didn’t spend as much time on the computer as I do.
I love reading and I have books, but I have read them all more than once. And my parents can’t find any time to go to the shopping centre with me and buy me books.
I would like to go to a country and learn everything about it and take loads of pictures and have absolutely NO CONNECTION to the Internet. I would like to go to a country with a lot of history.
I CAN stay far away from the Internet as long as I’m busy with something. Something that I like being busy with.
My school is nearly starting so I’m happy I’ll be busy with it. What’s sad is, last year I didn’t get any GOOD grades (but I didn’t fail the year) as I thought I could. And that was because I didn’t study… Because I was all the time on the Internet. It’s sad, isn’t it? And I regret so much every minute I spent on the Internet when I could be doing something useful.
And, I also have all these social networks like Twitter and Facebook. But I’m thinking of deleting them. Because, why do I need them for? Do I really want to ”talk” about what I did yesterday or today? And who’s gonna read it? I’m worried about who reads it because I hear so many scary stories related to Facebook.
You know, I think I’m gonna delete them right now. What I wrote made me realise that half the time I spend on the Internet is because of those social ”things”.
    I admire you, Nikki.
Reading your posts is something I won’t stop doing.

    Lots of Love from Amy

Hope you got some rest and relaxation Nikki! :) I totally believe in this article! It’s hard to force yourself to do nothing, and just look around, take it all in…which is sad because this world has grown so accustom to staying busy all the time. I decided a while back to stop for a minute and just look around me, but it takes practice…and it’s SO WORTH IT!!!!!!!

I came across this article myself- I’m a bit guilty of playing with my phone or ipod to avoid a social interaction- particularly on a bus ride home from work! Really enjoy your posts!

Just read your interview with Gurl. I have to say that I always enjoy reading your interviews and of course your posts here on your blog, always a shock to remember that you are only 22 although “shock” may not be the right word! Love always!

You don’t spend much time on the computer, yet when you do, you always find really interesting things. Thanks for sharing that. I’ve been learning to go with instinct lately of straying from the computer and going outside and soaking up Vitamin-D. So it’s a process, but it does work.

    Interesting article.
I read once that the brain is a like a muscle. And you must exercise it, because if not, it won’t work. Much like Alzheimer.
That is why I read a lot, and I mean, A LOT! Whatever falls into my hands. And also, do a lot of crosswords puzzles.
That helps your brain work out.
I also read that looking at green (landscape, trees, etc.) helps a lot. It has something to do with us being close relatives to monkeys (you know, we probably were hanging from trees or something).
