I was traveling last year and came across these paintings/collages made by local kids that were hanging outside to dry. When I was a kid I drew animals, mostly dogs, but according to my mother I loved to draw brides. I think kids draw what they feel, more than what they see. I certainly didn’t see a lot of weddings growing up, but my parents did divorce when I was 2. Maybe that somehow made me more obsessed with white dresses and bouquets, or maybe I was just a normal little girl who glamorized the thought of them.
I love the picture with all of the smiling faces. I felt drawn to it, maybe because I couldn’t help but envision the child who drew it. I looked around and tried to guess which one it was. I would have asked but none of the kid’s spoke English. At first thought I assumed it would be the kid laughing the loudest, or smiling the biggest, but then I thought of all the things I drew when I was young that were far from obvious, and it made me look a little closer…

Images are great.
these pictures are so beautiful
keep up your amazing work
)
children’s artwork is amazing; it makes you understand their personality.
my 4 year old sister is autistic and shes never looked anyone in the eye. she doesn’t speak. she doesn’t show emotions. she hardly moves.
i was sat here on the laptop reading your posts and she came over to me. she stood their, turned to the screen and smiled. She saw your name and pictures.
this was the first time my sister ever showed emotion…
i know part of what she feels now. your her hero.

Hello! I from in Ukraine. You super star!
i use to do the same thing but mine was a bit diffent when i was like 9 years old i used to draw alot of pics of girls with the perfect hair and perfect frinds pictures that i wanted to be i got picked on alot by the “populer kids” when i was 9, i still do which is why i drew those pics because i wanted to be perfect even though i was far from that.
Vote for Nikki as the most beautiful person(inside and out!)! http://www.portraitmagazine.net/
That is very nice, painting is something that you can just get carried away in. it makes me feel peaceful and happy inside.
Nikki I’m Brazilian fan of twilight and you played very well. I wish you much success! (If you have something written is wrong to blame google tradutor.sei speak a little English but prefer to use google translator)
Dear, Nikki
As soon as I entered your blog I liked it very much precisely because it created a light hand is not a famous actress, ordinary girl with a good heart.
All your ideas are unique. They are filled with joy and gladness instead of grief and sadness in your smile. Thank you for what you have.
Now I’m only 15, but in the future I dream of disadvantaged all over the world and I hope sometime we’ll meet again.
PS Sorry for my ugly English because I live in Ukraine.
Kisses. Alina
Dear Nikki
Thank you so much for sharing all your thoughts, ideas and pictures I really appreciate it because it’s like your openning your heart to us… and I just want you to know that I cherish every single thing you post…
Sometimes, fans think that celebrities are just a bunch of perfect people with perfect bodies and with a perfect lifestyle.
But I realize, you’re normal people. Well you’re not just normal…. You’re deep, intelligent and of course… amazing!! And very, very special, I really love people like you…

Your fan from Ecuador.
I found it all so cute, so beautiful. nikki, my heart, I love you very much. Come to Brazil ok? kisses from a Brazilian fan.
Its awesome that they actually hung the pictures outside to dry. In a lot of cases no one cares about something a child draws its viewed as something trivial. They have taken the time to show these kids they are important too along with what they dream and or feel. It’s cool to see how other cultures respond to things like this.
just a question…
Emmett is good in bed?
fun…
hey, what is? Come to Brazil! we love you here, and we truly rely on his brilliance as soon as possible! you are wonderful …

I LOVE YOU NIKKI…YOU RE AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3 <3
Its usually the ones who are standing alone. It is the ones wanting it the most that will bring it to life on paper.
Also I was just curious as to why you say in all your interview that teens and young adult should not pursue acting? Would you still say it if they went to College and received a higher education first?
Hey Nikki! =)

Thank you very much, I wish the best.
amazing pictures, Nikki, keep up the good work with charity and animal rights
a huge and faithful fan from Greece

And you whrite great too.
I am Very very grateful that it’s you who plays Rosalie in The Twilight saga. You fit for the role. And I think you are a very good actress, nice and considerate too- Of all interviews I’ve seen of you.
I have some question: Have you read all the books of Twilight? Which one do you think was the best? If you coudn’t have the role as Rosalie Hale, Who would you wanna play?
If you have time to answear my questions I would be so happy!
Big hug from me and Sweden. Hope you can visit us!

Truly inspiring
So true and well put. I always draw things that I can only dream of because none of them are realities (at the moment anyways.) Anyways I love your post they’re so enlightening.
Hey, Nikki!!! I am 12 years old. I love you so much! Rosalie is my favorite character in the twilight saga and I look up to you so much! Keep on doing what you do!

beijinhos (kisses in portuguese)
PS: sorry, I know my english is horrible, but I try =)
I never realized that until you wrote that. Completely opened my eyes. When I was going through with depression in 7th grade I would draw things of death because that’s how I felt inside, completely dead. I agree with what Jason said, “maybe not just what they feel but also what they wish for deep down”.
I love your entries more than anything
I think that is so true! When I was a child, all my pictures included desert scenes, and I have never ben to a desert! Also, when I was a child I could just start drawing and have a beautiful picture and I would’nt even have to think about it… it was just…there.
hey nikki, i loved your website, and i’m a big fan yours. i love u. the brazilian’s fan love u ♥
CREATIVITY THE CHILD IS SOMETHING WONDERFUL.
WHERE ARE THESE PHOTOS? KISSES LOVE YOU.
I think this is so cool! All the pictures are so cool! Yeah, i think that children draw what they feel most of what they see.
Oh my gosh I love you so much! You’re the only reason I watch those Twilight movies and dare I say no one could have done a better job in playing Rosalie! You’re such a talented actress with intelligence to boot! Thanks for sharing your blog with us!
Hey Nikki, I just have to say I absolutely am a die hard Twilight fan! I wish I could meet all of you! If u r looking to draw a wedding…u are more than welcome to mine
I’m getting married on 1/11/11 on the beach of Sandals Grande Antigue at 11 am I am so excited
I can’t wait to see the pictures they take
a dream come true right? :0)
They are so beautiful, I just sit here for a few minutes thinking of what I would paint right now. It would for sure be something peaceful like the ocean or a huge drink haha
because of my job and what I do I love seeing the art of others esp. kids!! Kids are open and honest and truthful. My 2 boys are constantly drawing and it always gives me insight to what they are thinking! some of my best presents to date are gifts that include their artwork!! it somehow captures them and their thoughts in time and place! cool post!! btw hope your site doesn’t crash due to the amount of people i got it form peter facinelli post on twitter
hey nikki!! i just wanted to let you know that you are a great actress and know how to play your roles well!! i bet it probably gets a little frustrating always seeing taylor rob and kristen in the spotlight, and dont get me wrong i absolutely LOVE them and they seem like freakin awesome people . I just feel like you need to know that we notice what you and the rest of the cast do for Twilight and we ALL thank you SO much!! i love you!
am
I love it, When I was a child, I always draw a houses with a trees
You used to draw animals ?
That’s awesome, ’cause I always used to draw faces and people but Animals were impossible for me to draw
I got to say I love the way you think things.
you are inspiring.
The best calendar I have ever seen was one where children drew pictures portraying their home countries. What their home countries meant to them, in their minds, since they now are USA citizens. It was amazing and these little ones show so much love and happiness in their paintings – looking at the bright side even when life has been difficult for them. I love children’s art….thanks for sharing this!
i think i’m going to comment on every entry! IF you rad this, then I’m BEGGING, PLEASE, PLEASE open a Twitter account!! i was so exited when you “tweeted” from Peter’s! screw the haters, you have a lot of people who love you and support you (and actually tweet-fight others who talk smack about you)
If you do, follow ME @blue_bandgeek26
Love you,
Maria
The other day I was helping my parents clean out our attic and I found a box of my 2nd grade drawings and stories and such. I found that most of my work was about horrible things such as tornadoes killing animals and uprooting houses. I didn’t even remember doing any of that, and things like that never happened to my in my childhood. I asked my father if I was a dark child and he thought nothing of it. It was strange to find that kind of dark artwork from my past since my childhood was pretty normal and happy.
I do not know, do you understand in Russian, but I know “Ты – Лучшая!”
I really, really like your blog. If Chicken Soup for the Soul came alive, I’m pretty sure it would be you. Keep up the great work
Looks very fun picture.
I’d like to see them closely.
Mükkembel files.
Nikki Thanks for everything.
Turkish Nazli loves you.
Nikki loved your blog
is the best of all
your the next Floria Sigismondi!
She’s a great music video director.
Nice pics! Its wonderful to see kids drawing what they feel and also what they wish, I don’t know how to draw I wish I could, so I express myself with music. The pics are amazing and makes me feel happy, everytime I see kids drawing i miss my childhood!
kisses and hugs from Brazil
@tatismi
Hey Nikki…that’s from Greece right?…LOL…You’re so sweet and caring!:)

luv u nikki
i think that kids also draw what they wish for. those pictures are beautiful.
Being a child is to be happy in all forms, childhood is a gift for life many do not have the privilege of having a childhood which is sad. Art is one of the most beautiful that one has to express itself.I deeply wish success to you hope to sail in Brazil soon taking many photos.
Hello, Nikki! I live in Russia, and I want, that you knew: Russia loves you! =***
hello, Nikki I live in Russia, and I want, that you knew: Russia loves you!
@NikNak: nice to meet you! Your comment makes me think a lot! I didn’t notice that I have a very happy family until I read about Nikki and you! Perhaps people in my country (I mean VietNam) don’t take divorce and re-marry as a good thing, so in my 18 years of life, I haven’t ever witnessed anyone get divorce (except in the movies)! I feel really really sorry for those who faced this situation!! But life is more than that, I believe so!^o^
I grew up with a sister and a friend or when I’m alone with a pencil, crayon and a paper…. We do a lot of things.. And just like you we also draw.. And just like you I didn’t see a lot of weddings growing up.. I only witnessed 1.. BTW.. those paintings are beautiful.. Those kids are very creative
Beautiful pictures
Wow, that is amazing!!
Ms Nikki .. i love what you’ve written, do you have some kind of interest in writing?? i mean, i guess you can be one .. this kind of touched my heart, i think i can relate with your thoughts .. love you!!! you’re an amazing actress!!! C: GOD bless
im an art major in i can tell you that those are pretty awsome kids how such a pure imagination…
i litterly check for new posts at least 3 times a day every day no joke i love you Nikki =D
The children are very talented
Oh my, your childhood story is very similar to mine. When I was little, I used to always draw a little house with three windows,a door, a quaint little pathway leading up to it, flower bushes on the side, a big tree next to it and a great round sound always shining down on it. In my mind, it was the perfect home. However, my home in reality was anything but perfect. My parents separated when I was 3 and got their marrage annuled when I was 10. I lived with my grandmother along my three siblings. It was a miserable home, everyone always fought with each other. I guess what I was drawing was what my unconscious wanted at the time.
Working with kids made me appreciate this so much. Your posts make me smile. I find the photography beyond beautiful, professionalism aside. Or lack thereof.
Thank you for sharing yourself.
That really made think deeper about what kids draw. I always drew flowers and dresses (including wedding dresses, my parents got divorced when I was 2 also, thats really weird) and diamond rings. I really can’t draw though.
Children draw (no pun intended) inspiration from many things. They can be simple, like just what they’ve seen – but as Jason said, thy also draw a lot of wishes and desires as well. Nice post. Colourful too!
The best artists I’ve ever seen are usually under the age of 12 because their imaginations are so pure. Your pictures are proof of that. Thanks for sharing!
“I think kids draw what they feel” that’s exactly! I used to draw a lot of paintings which included a cottage, a chicken, a field and the sun though I had not seen cottage and field before! But then I recognized my paintings were absolutely terrible, therefore, to protect everyone’s eyes, I decided to quit drawing
)
That’s so cool!
Maybe not just what they feel but also what they wish for deep down. You have some great thoughts…
